The Promise of the Spirit -- The Comforter
January 27 & 28
Concerning spiritual matters the Word of God refers to the battle between Christ and Satan as struggle between light and darkness. One of the many scriptures that illustrate this principle is John 8:12 where Jesus refers to Himself as the light of the world and whoever follows Him will not be left to walk in darkness. To state it in the clearest terms, the Holy Spirit is the one who brings us into relation with the Light of the world. To dismiss the promptings of the Holy Spirit is the most dangerous spiritual decision a person can make. As a pastor I have encountered individuals who feel that they are not ready to make a full surrender to Jesus and have to wait. It is not a matter of whether they know that deciding for Jesus is the right thing to do, this, the Holy Spirit has convicted them of. And thus they place themselves on a path leading to darkness. Paul admonishes us in 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NKJV:
We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says:
“In an acceptable time I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
The Holy Spirit is bringing the gifts of confession, repentance, surrender and forgiveness to your soul. Open your heart and receive them, for in doing so you receive the greatest gift of all, Jesus-The Light of the World, God’s only begotten Son.
Have a great day! Thank you for spending some time considering these thoughts.
