The Promise of the Spirit -- The Comforter
January 13 & 14
It is interesting how as the years have gone by and I’ve had the opportunity to pastor in various types of churches the Lord has opened my eyes to certain realities. One of them being the earmarks of behavior that the Bible is very clear about in regards to who a person is primarily focused on. One classic example is the Pharisees. All they could think about was themselves and how they were threatened and offended by Jesus. They simply did not have room in their souls to be led by Jesus.
It is no different today. It has become clearly evident to me, how can God fill us with His Spirit if we cling to self? If you are drawing attention to self either in a boastful manner or in self-pity because of how you’ve been treated then you are not filled nor guided by the Holy Spirit of God. On the other hand, if you are filled and guided by the Spirit of God you will be compelled to speak of the Savior and spread His sweet influence to all those around you. Men and women who walk in the Spirit, men and women of integrity and who will speak the truth is what the church needs today and what the world around us is waiting to experience. Determine to crucify self, to be emptied of all self seeking desires and gaining the sympathy of others. Paul put it in this manner, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me....” Galatians 2:20
Have a great day! Thank you for spending some time considering these thoughts.
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with
its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24
